Deirdre Roache our Global Research and Insights Manager shares a snapshot of some of the key trends and watch outs for travel retail this year:

Travel trends in 2025 include tourists looking for ‘detour destinations. Tourists are seeking out hidden gems and less-travelled destinations around the world. Another key travel trend for 2025 is “Good Getaways,” where people travel specifically to experience unique products from renowned locations. For instance, travellers might visit Korea for its skincare products or France for its exquisite chocolates.

In 2025, consumer trends will focus on savvy spending, with individuals striving to make the most informed product choices. While premiumisation and dupe trends are expected to persist, their growth may decelerate. Wellness will continue to be a significant trend, driven by consumers seeking ingredient-led solutions to address specific health needs.

Notably, younger consumers from the Middle East are more inclined than their Western counterparts to opt for higher-priced options, reflecting a distinct regional preference for premium products.

According to Future Laboratory, the resale and pre-loved market is projected to continue its growth trajectory in 2025. This trend is underscored by several notable developments. Our Pre-Loved Store in Lisbon, for instance, has been complemented by eBay’s fashion shows at the New York and London Spring/Summer fashion weeks, which showcased the brands available for purchase on their platform.

Additionally, Vestiaire Collective has made significant strides in this space. Their cameo appearance on “Emily in Paris” and the opening of a permanent ReSelfridges space highlight the increasing consumer expectation for resale markets to have a physical store presence. These initiatives reflect a broader shift towards integrating resale into mainstream retail experiences.
